Episode 02 – “Appointed as the Lady’s Guard”
Yes! We’re back with another episode of the insane all girls airsoft club. I was actually debating whether or not to continue covering this (contrary to popular belief, I don’t have all the time in the world to cover everything), but after watching the episode I feel like there would be a fair amount of material to talk about. So lucky for you, I will continue to do C3-bu impressions!
This week, the C3-bu continues to harass poor Yura into joining the club. It’s not that she didn’t like what she experienced on the battlefield; it’s just she isn’t quite sure if she finds it fun or scary or maybe both. I would say that the airsoft battles are probably fun and scary. To complicate her decision, she meets her roommate for the first time. It’s the super tomboy, Sonora Kashima (CV: Miyuki Sawashiro, Celty from Durarara!!) who happens to be the president of C3-bu and a connoisseur of rice balls.
Even though she would love the club to have more members, Sonora still respects Yura’s decision to not join if she really wants. As a result, Sonora proposes another survival game: a two on four battle with her and Yura on the same team. Sonora even offers to head into battle gunless. The dress, on the other hand, is something she didn’t exactly agree to do to. It’s agreed that if the two win, then Yura doesn’t have to join the club. Of course, it may very well have been Sonora’s plan in the first place to show how fun airsoft battles can be.
In the end, the duo come out on top, mostly thanks to Sonora’s cunning and quick moves despite the wedding dress. I think my favorite parts about the series so far are the fantasies that Yura has on the battlefield. First, she had a recreation of a scene straight out of Rambo. Now, she fantasizing about a scenario where she’s a tough agent man who has to protect her woman. Ironically, the roles actually reversed, in reality, between the two girls.
While the animation may not be the greatest around, it’s still passable and shines in the action-packed gunfight sequences. The music, on the other hand remains to be fantastic, making use of the jazzy sounds of a big band during said gunfights. Next week, it looks like we’ll be treated to more airsoft action with the now 6 member C3-bu.
