Episode 10 – “Brothers-in-Arms Are Bound to Disappear”
Wow, I definitely didn’t expect there to be so much character development in this one series. Say what you will about the concept or setting of it, Yura’s character composition is turning out to be complex in my opinion. The only downside I see from this is that the other characters don’t really get to see much action or do much for her character, aside from Sonora and surprisingly now Rin. I just can’t help but feel bad for Yura because her intentions started out so innocent before they caused her downward descent into becoming an airsoft robot.
Just when she thought she had found the perfect home to improve her airsoft game, it turns out that even Yura’s new disposition is too much for them. Sure, Yura’s tactics produce the results, but at what cost? She’s become a machine on the battlefield (almost quite literally) and giving up her humanity. Like, this is some sort of development that you would commonly see in a seinen action series (though, one could argue that C3-bu can actually fall into this category).
You know things have gone bad when the all-business enemies look like saints in comparison to the main character. If this were completely analogous to an action series, it’d be like the main character joining the bad guys, and the bad guys saying, “Yo, you’re kinda heartless and not a very good team player.” It’s that bad, and I almost couldn’t believe what I was seeing from Yura while I was watching this. When one of her teammates got hurt, even an opposing team member came over to help her. Militaristic as they may be, Rin’s team knows the value of sportsmanship.
Yura wouldn’t even shake that poor guy’s hand after losing! Doing what you can to win is one thing, but if it means being a bitch (pardon my French) then I don’t know if it’s worth it at all. I hate to describe Yura like that because I really like her character, and I feel like I can sympathize with in a lot of ways. After all, this all started because she had trouble making friends and envied the self-confidence she saw in the C3-bu members.
The question that stands now is how the C3-bu will save her from the dark side. My guess is to defeat her in an airsoft showdown, and it should promise to be epic.
