Episode 12 – “Go In, Guns Blazing!”

I thought that this was going to be the last episode, but it would seem that I’ve been duped by the system! It’s strange too, since I think that the way this episode ends would have been a pretty appropriate way to close out the series. By the end, it felt like the series had come full circle, reverting back to its fun-loving ways and kind of reflects Yura’s growth. She had all the right ingredients to begin with, she just needed to go on an existential journey to fully understand what everything meant to her.

The airsoft battles return with more comedic scenes then before, creating a stark contrast to all of the serious battles that have occurred in between. I’m a little torn about how I feel about this sudden transition. Sure, I’m glad that the club has finally gone back to the way it once was, but I’m a little upset that this regression didn’t happen smoothly. Though, I guess you can argue that Yura’s whole development was this said transitional phase between the club’s high points to its lowest point.

I am thankful, however, that Yura’s powers came back into play again. Part of me thinks the series would have been better if it just focused on this aspect of Yura’s character. I mean, it’s so god-like and yet there’s no explanation at all about it! Everyone just kind of accepts it like it’s normal. Still, I’m not unhappy with how the series played out at least. The development of Yura’s character was pretty well done, and that supernatural aspect just adds a welcome, if not ridiculous, angle to the series.

I actually wasn’t too sure what Yura was planning to do with her “powers.” At first, I thought she was turning back time to the start of the semester so that they’d have that much longer to play, but what actually happened makes more sense…I guess. Also at the end, I half expected those two girls that Yura invites to the club to become main characters, with a season 2 announcement. I highly doubt that this series will receive a second season, but I’m curious as to what they could possibly do in the 13th and final episode…
