Impression:
So, I am officially convinced that this series will be getting quite a bit more serious soon. How do I know this? The Oniwaban Group has just been introduced. Anyone that watched Rurouni Kenshin knows that we are about to be getting some crazy assassins in our story. This excites me because I want to see what is up with Roman’s capabilities. Roman shows off his agility in this episode when he tries to save a performer, but there is someone who is showing of some moves of his own. Magoichi was not only capable of catching up to Roman, but he also shows off some crazy gun play that once again made me question the level of technology that exists in this series. We still have our goofy elements, but that is just something that a series from the same guy that did Lupin III will have. We are introduced to more corruption as there appears to be some higher level stuff going on at the brothel that seems way more organized than the corruption that the nobles have shown.
Current Opinion of the Show:
I am very excited at the potential that this show has. I feel like the second episode of Bakumatsu was a big stepping stone with its mentioning of the Oniwaban Group and the showing off of more crazy fighting styles. I am still really curious as to what Roman did in the end of the first episode because episode two didn’t really answer my questions regarding that. However, I will say that I am expecting some very great things from this series moving forward. I am looking forward to finding out what the hell Roman was doing in that estate splitting fight.
