Episode 11 – “Under Resort: Labyrinth Utopia”
So…how about those bombshells at Sony’s press conference? The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy VII Remake, AND Shenmue III? How is a person supposed to handle that much hype in a single press event? For that reason, I’m gonna make this impression short and sweet, even though it’s my fault for putting off writing this thing for so long.
What stood out for me this episode is how it was like the very first time that Bell, Lili, and Welf felt like an actual team that not only worked together to traverse the floors of the dungeon but also argue and worry together. There’s the scene where Welf steals Lili’s food, as well as the part in the tent where each member of the team voice their opinion about what the Takemikazuchi Familia did to them.
This seems like an obvious dynamic to have among three people who work together, and I guess it largely is, but I still think it’s important because it shows to what extent their relationship has reached. We may not really see all of the events that lead them to become this close with each other, and that’s missing out on the progression that I like so much about this series, but hey, fighting an endless onslaught of wolves has got to strengthen bonds, right?
The other great thing about this episode is the neat rest area, which thoroughly looks the part. From the lush green to the crystals on the ceiling, it embodies the prototypical rest area that is always textually described in dungeon RPGs. I’d love to just hang out in one of these rest areas, or as DanMachi calls it “Under Resort.”
