I am simultaneously laughing and facepalming as I watch the second episode of Vividred Operation.
Picking up immediately after the previous episode, Kenjirou explains to Akane and Aoi that the Vivid System is designed to combat the Alone, and only they can help save the world. He then gives Aoi her own key, allowing her to fight alongside Akane. The resulting battle is ridiculous, yet somehow entertaining to watch if only to see the shocked reactions of all the soldiers. When the tides turn against their favor, the two girls “dock”, fusing together to form Vividblue Operation. With their powers and strength combined, they are able ton destroy the Alone and save the day. Unfortunately for them however, the resulting battle destroys their school. The episode ends with Mizuha Amagi (Haruka Yamazaki) telling them they are transferring to a new school.

Large hammer: +2 against girls
Again, I’m wondering why Kenjirou is entrusting the fate of the WORLD in the hands of a couple of middle schoolers. Was this his plan all along? He never even asked his granddaughter if she was okay with having the responsibility of people’s lives in her hands, let alone the fact that she’ll be put into life-threatening situations battling beings they know very little about. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt when…
For one, I don’t see how kissing foreheads allows them to fuse together. I get that their bodies and minds combine to become one, but isn’t the whole act of kissing a bit much? Sure, it’s much simpler than the fusion dance, but it’s just such an oddly specific thing. The fact that this is built into the Vivid System makes it seem all the more suspicious. Then it hit me.
“Plant a smacker on Akane-chan!”
See that face? He’s not a weasel just to make this show more interesting: it’s because he is a perverted old man. It makes sense that he would have two young girls fly around and fighting with their semi-magical powers. It’s not just for the sake of the world; it’s for his own weird sense of amusement. There is absolutely no need for them to kiss in order to fuse, other than to see them do it. Not all best friends are so close as to kiss each other and hold hands (unless you’re in college and are going through a “curious experimentation” phase). And what’s with them getting stripped down to their underwear? Even Sailor Moon was a bit more subtle with their transformations. This show doesn’t need more ass shots.
The action in this episode is the high point of the series thus far, and it’s partly because of how ridiculous it is. The producers of this show threw all realism out the window by having the girls use giant hammers and boomerangs to fight the Alone. Seriously, missles and 50 caliber machine gun fire couldn’t dent the Alone’s armor, but a giant boomerang will make short work of it in no time. The most ridiculous weapon goes to Vividblue’s giant hammer/boomerang, which has thrusters to give it that much needed power.

There are exhaust ports IN HER BREASTS.
The fanservice is really getting to me, and we’re only 2 episodes into this thing. It doesn’t stop, even in the middle of a climactic battle. I keep thinking that it’sthe work of Kenjirou’s perverted mind, since the suits are designed to make them kiss and strip down in order to transform. Then I realized, it’s not about Kenjirou; it’s about the fans. Because this is the kind of show that only caters to a specific group of people, namely guys who like seeing anime girls in skimpy outfits and fighting mech battles. I really hope my opinion can change before the final episodes.
