Impression:

There were really only two things that went down in this episode. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but it did keep things pretty simple. Apparently, it is the start of summer and that means we have a festival. That seems pretty standard for an anime, but this is a very special festival.

I didn't think that Mugai was going to be this over powered.

I didn’t think that Mugai was going to be this over powered.

No one told Jinbei that a forrest-class insect attacks Edo at the start of summer every year. I really want to know how something that large is allowed to attack the city when you know that it is coming. People didn’t even seem to care that buildings were being leveled. The festival actually kicks off with a special show. That show is Mugai fighting the forrest-class insect by himself. I knew that he could cut the thing up, Mugai can fuse his weapon with a beetle’s horn, transform it, and use it as a weapon. That picture shows you just how crazy that fight was.

Jinbei has that protagonist-level seduction power.

The rest of the festival is actually pretty standard. Jinbei didn’t know about the summer war because he is new to Edo and he ended up back at the Insect Magistrate’s place with confusion on his face. The guy meets a young lady that is obviously of noble birth. She wanted to watch the fireworks, but she cannot leave the walls of that place. Jinbei then spends the rest of the day looking for a place to watch the fireworks with this mysterious young lady. She is one of those serious types that questions why Jinbei is doing all of this for her, but that is just the way he is. They end up in the watchtower with a fantastic view of the show. The mysterious young lady gives Jinbei one of her bells as a reward before she mysteriously disappears.

No one cares about the destruction.

Current Opinion of the Show:

I am very interested in where this story is going. We took a day off from the corruption in order to watch Mugai be more powerful than everyone else in existence, but we had some Marvel movie style after credits stuff that was very important. That blonde girl that keeps talking to Mugai did two things that bother me. The first is stalking the carriage that was taking the Insect Magistrate to a secret location. Did I forget to mention that the young lady that spent the day with Jinbei is the Insect Magistrate? Well, that explains the very noble demeanor. I think that she may be more of a priestess type religious figure, rather than an actual leader because of how she is treated. No one can tough her and she seals herself away during the summer. Back to the blonde girl. Not only was she following the carriage, but she was riding on a giant dragonfly. That group that Mugai left is definitely bad news and they may even be behind the crazy insect activity in Japan. The obvious had to be stated. That is an actual plot and I am really excited to see it being fleshed out even more. Oh well, the preview was showing off a more comedic episode for next week. Also, does anyone else want to see Jinbei end up with the Insect Magistrate? I know that I do.

Being able to control the insects is pretty shady if you ask me.
