Episode 10 – “For the Longest Time”

I finally have internet at my apartment, which means slightly more regular post times! And I swear, this series is becoming more of a mind trip every week. To summarize, Youto can’t remember events from his past that others can, and now it seems that Tsukishi seems to remember things that may not be true. According to her memory, she and Tsukiko lived with her mother until she was six years old. However, her grandmother claims that she only lived with her mother until she was three.

So what’s with the inconsistency with everyone’s memories, and how do we know whose memories are the correct ones? Whose to say that “correct” memories even exist? Is that cat god responsible for everyone’s memory loss?  Most probably. This series continues to surprise me with how complex it can be, even if it’s unexpected departures like this. What will makes things interesting is how it handles this plot twist.

For Tsukiko, what matters most is who has known Youto the longest. Because she has an inferiority complex, it’s something concrete she would be able to hold on to, regardless of how important that little fact may or may not be. Some cliche advice for Tsukiko and you readers out there: don’t worry about what others do. As I heard a crazy guy at McDonald’s tell this homeless lady, “you are the one in control of your life and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” Inspiring stuff in the most unlikely of places.

Of course, that’s often easier said than done, but you just have to take baby steps some time. But Tsukiko is hard-pressed to find out the truth, invoking the wrath of the cat god whose now inside of Ponta’s innocent rabbit. It grants her wish to directly investigate the truth herself. Now things are getting incredibly interesting. I’m wondering how far back in time they’ll go and just what kind of hidden memories will be uncovered.
