Impression:
Why does this always happen? Here I am thinking that this anime was the exception. I am a sucker for childhood friends when it comes to romance in anime. I just feel like they should be together because of the power in the relationship that they have established. However, Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai has Yozora. Yozora has always been the kind of character that I hate with her malice towards others and even the events at the end of season one left me unconvinced that she would be a good match for Kodaka. Well, season two seems to have made it a point to make me question which ship I will support moving forward in this series. I am very happy with Rika’s larger role in this season and not just because she is making the gaming aspect of the series more prominent. Although, watching Yozora play that Otome game really got to me when she took the misunderstood delinquent route and everyone but Kodaka knew what was going on. At the end when the game essentially told Yozora that her way of life would bring her nothing but sorrow I genuinely felt bad for her because she wasn’t overly aggressive in this episode. Then there was Rika who was pretty interesting. We got to see a very serious Rika during the gaming, a girly Rika when she started experimenting with new hair styles, and a scientific Rika when she invented a time machine. You heard me right, I just said time machine. Well, a hypnotic sleep aid that allowed Kodaka to see the past in a dream due to the power of suggestion, but time machine is much easier to say. When Kodaka was dreaming he went back to the last day he say the young Yozora ten years ago. Kodaka told her about the moving and everything, but things got very dream like when Yozora became a giant and started attacking Kodaka because the dream Yozora would not forgive Kodaka. That was a dream so let’s analyze it like a dream. Obviously Kodaka regrets leaving Yozora without a word and he is still hurting over the fact that he forgot about his one and only friend. Even though Kodaka got a chance to apologize, he feels that whatever he does now is not good enough and that his sins are too great. It did not help that Yozora wanted to hide their history and that she claimed that they were no longer friends and this has led to Kodaka thinking that Yozora might actually hate him. This is what I am talking about. The connection that a childhood friendship builds is very hard to beat. I say that, but harem veterans know that being a childhood friend usually leads to you watching the guy that you love fall for some girl he just met. This is not the time for me to rant, so I will move on. The dream only lasted five minutes and Kodaka awakes feverishly from what appears to be a nightmare. Kodaka then reveals that he mentally went back ten years even though Rika said that what he had on was a dream machine. However, things get serious when the girls want to know how Yozora was in a dream about Kodaka’s life from ten years ago. Obviously he yelled out her name while sleeping for those of you that watched the episode and wondered how the connection was drawn.

I wonder what would have happened if it was a real-time machine and Kodaka got to say those things to Yozora in the past?
Current Opinion of the Show:
I felt like this was one of the strongest episodes in the series. The development for Yozora and Kodaka was so strong that I couldn’t even mention some of the fun parts of the episode in the block of text that is above this one. Yukimura is officially a reverse trap and they mentioned Mayo Chiki which made me laugh because I really enjoyed that series too. Oh well, that’s it for the extra stuff. I will not say that I have completely jumped ship over what I just saw, but I am more open-minded now. I want to see how the other girls react to this because I know that they will not take this lying down. I look forward to seeing what all of the maid outfits from the preview lead to.

I too wasn’t that keen on Yozora before NEXT, I mean, she was just plain abusive and whiny before but now we’re finally getting to see a… ‘different’ side to her and I like it!
Yeah, Next is doing a good job of developing all of the girls.
