Impression:
I knew that Sena was going to be on the offensive, but it is tough when Kodaka’s obliviousness is such a strong defense. We get our classic date scenario that starts out as something that isn’t really a date. Unfortunately for the ladies, Kodaka invites all four of them to the same outing. After noticing that Rika is still wearing her usual attire, the girls start talking about fashion. To Yozora’s dismay, she finds out that she is wearing a very sexy outfit which prompts her and Rika to run off clothes shopping. The mall is crowded, so Kodaka ends Yukimura with them. This leaves Sena and Kodaka alone to shop for Kobato’s birthday present. Things boil down to the typically vague “what do you think of me” talk and this makes for some great moments if you like the idea of Sena ending up with Kodaka. When Sena told Kodaka that a person she liked could never be boring, I almost leapt out of my seat. I knew that Sena could bounce back from Yozora’s recent domination. Kodaka is the kind of guy that Sena has been looking for. A genuinely nice guy that doesn’t just hang around her because of lust. As we have seen, Sena hasn’t really surrounded herself with the most genuine of people. I am a huge fan of this dynamic and that helped me enjoy this episode way more than your average fan would. This lead to a small fashion show amongst the girls that left to buy clothes and a very predictable birthday party. Things were awkward and Sena was creepy, but Kobato had fun because it was a real birthday party. Obviously, the siblings would go home and Kodaka would fire up the stove for a special birthday dinner, but there was something very unexpected waiting for him at home. Kate and Maria showed up to see Kobato and they all sit down for dinner. One thing leads to another and Kodaka accidentally sees Kate in the shower. Well, leave it to Kodaka’s charm to avoid being yelled at. Being genuine is getting this guy pretty far in life. The one issue that I had with this episode was the way in which Kate hinted at the fact that she wanted to marry Kodaka. I mean, normally that is normal in a harem series, but Kate is a nun. Nuns are the brides of Christ and it really gets to me when I see them portrayed in a sexual manner. Oh well, Kate is friends with the chairman and we learned that Kodaka and Sena’s engagement is much more than some drunken rambling.
Current Opinion of the Show:
I am liking this show more and more every week. Now that Sena got her moment to shine, we are getting some well-rounded development in this anime for all of the romantic interests of Kodaka. I kind of wish that they didn’t talk over the preview clips because said clips are ridiculously important to me. The preview is very informative when it comes to telling us about what happens in the next episode and it builds some great excitement for the coming weeks. I don’t know about you guys, but I really want to see Kodaka go fishing with the chairman and Kate. Hopefully some secrets get revealed if you know what I mean. Also, thank you to the people who participated in last week’s poll. I know the results may look disappointing to you, but I expected like a third of the votes that I actually got.
