In case you haven’t heard, Sony announced today that the PS4 was going to be released this Holiday season. It’ll have things like clouds, sharing, and new ways to harass your friends online. Down below we’ll take a brief look at some of the games that were announced during the event.
Spoiler alert: no killer apps.
Deep Down *working title* (Capcom)
The studio that brought Mega Man and Resident Evil showed a brief look at a new IP they’re developing called Deep Down. The game looks to be a fantasy-action type game, with dragons and knights in shining armor. A bit of gameplay was shown, and the graphics looked impressive.

Destiny (Bungie)
I’ve always been a big fan of Bungie’s ability to craft epic sci-fi tales, and Destiny is shaping up to be another great title by the former Halo developers. The upcoming FPS will have MMO elements and will be shaped by the way gamers play it.

Diablo III (Blizzard Entertainment)
Surprising PC gamers everywhere, Blizzard announced that Diablo III, once sacred to the PC, will now be available for the PS4 and PS3 later this year. Purists don’t seem happy about this, but it remains to be seen how this will impact the Diablo community once the game actually comes out.

Driveclub (Evolution Studios)
The best part of the entire event was listening to a developer from Evolution Studios go into extensive detail about the cars in this upcoming racing game. “We’ve gone borderline insane with real world details and subtleties”, he tells the audience as he loving describes the microscopic details of the suede seats and the orgasmic feeling of opening the car door and strapping yourself in. Will this be Sony’s new “Giant Enemy Crab” moment?

New Final Fantasy Title (Square Enix)
Square Enix very briefly came out to mention a new Final Fantasy title that they’re working on. A brief tech demo was shown to showcase Square Enix’s new Luminous technology (shown at last year’s E3), which looked cool, but no confirmation that anything from it will end up in the new FF game. All that we know is that the game might be shown at this year’s E3. Thanks for stopping by, I guess?

Infamous: Second Son (Sucker Punch Productions)
The newest Infamous game was announced, with a new protagonist and a new story. Another notable moment from the event: Nate Fox from Sucker Punch introducing the game. His intense speech about freedom, security cameras in Britain, and getting tear-gassed years ago really left an impression.

Killzone: Shadow Fall (Guerrilla Games)
Oh, Sony. Once again, you’re trying to push Killzone as your killer app. Microsoft has Halo, Nintendo has its multitude of iconic characters, but you’ve been struggling for years to find something to represent your console. What’s interesting is that during E3 2005 when the PS3 was being announced, you also used a tech demo for Killzone 2 to show off the graphical potential of the console, which I’m not too sure really lived up to its hype. Granted, this demo looks incredible, but for it to succeed, it needs something that will allow it to stand out.

Knack (SCE Japan Studio)
Developer Mark Cerny kicked things off by introducing his latest game, featuring a cute little robot that can expand its size and fight goblins. The cartoony style and impressive tech on display looks charming, and it looks to be another solid action-platformer from the famed Ratchet and Clank developer.

Watch Dogs (Ubisoft Montreal)
The big talk of last year’s E3, Watch Dogs made another appearance in the form of a new trailer. Rumors were floating around since last summer that the game was being developed for next-gen platforms, and now it’s been pretty much confirmed, although it will still be released on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 as well.

The Witness (Jonathan Blow)
The creator of Braid has been teasing about his latest game for some time now, which is an exploration-based 3D puzzle game set on an uninhabited island. You’ll go around solving puzzles and exploring the island, perhaps uncovering some of the island’s secrets in the process. I loved Braid, with it’s challenging gameplay and thought-provoking writing, so I can’t wait to see how The Witness will turn out.
