Impression:
Personal opinion plays a big role in a person’s judgement of anything and everything. There are standards when it comes to quality, but we all have that friend that doesn’t enjoy that one movie everyone else likes. That is why ranking things like movies in terms of “greatest of all time” is something that will never be unanimous. That being said, episode ten of Oreshura is the greatest episode of all time, currently, when it comes to harem anime. I will not accept anyone disagreeing with me. Now, onto what really matters. I would say that every girl got their time to shine in this episode, but Hime kind of got the short end of the stick. Her big moment was showing Eita that her chest is ridiculously large. Obviously, there is no way that she was hiding those with a regular bra, but this is anime. Unfortunately, that is heavily superficial and, compared to what everyone else got, really doesn’t count as a shining moment.
Let’s go in the order that Eita used which is the passing of the seasons. No lie, last night I was going over anime characters with names that have the seasons in them with Bryan and we were like “damn, I didn’t know that the four girls in Oreshura represented the four seasons” and look at this. Talk about a coincidence. HARUsaki Chiwa is Spring, NATSUkawa Masuzu is Summer, AKIshino Himeka is Autumn, and FUYUmi Ai is Winter. Well, in this episode the group learns that Eita and Ai are childhood friends. This really hits Chiwa hard because her “advantage” when it comes to Eita was the fact that they knew each other the longest. That was just thrown out the window because Eita met Ai one year before he met Chiwa. When Chiwa goes to the bathroom to sulk, Eita follows her because he could tell that she was down. Some reassuring words and a hug lead to Chiwa getting back to her usual self. Now that is a moment. The guy that you love knowing you so well that he knows when you are upset and how to cheer you up without so much as a word. Now, I know that Masuzu hasn’t been getting a lot of screen time recently, but I would like to say that she uses her exposure very efficiently. That changed in this episode in regards to time because she is present during the majority of the episode. With two childhood friends and a delusional “ex-girlfriend” Masuzu is kind of down regarding the fact that she doesn’t really have a past with Eita. Well, Eita gives her the classic “we just need to make some memories together” line and that really hits her. Even though I already mentioned it, Himeka’s moment was showing off her breasts. The girls want Eita to pick out their swimsuits for the upcoming beach trip and Hime pulls Eita into her changing room. Classic maneuver. Well, when Eita gathers himself, he sees something that is going to make Chiwa even more insecure when they all go to the beach. Once again, this pale’s in comparison to the significance of the other moments, but it’s better than Hime being forgotten. Lastly we have Ai. This girl was pretty damn active in this episode with the reveal of her history with Eita, the multiple embraces that she shares with Eita, and the trying on of wedding dresses. Yes, Ai tricked Eita into looking at her in a wedding dress. Well, the one thing that could not be avoided when Eita decided to hang out with the girls in order of the seasons was the fact that everyone thinks she is dating another guy. Ai had to watch Eita spend time with all of the other girls, so Eita steps out to give Ai a flier with swimsuits on it. He had picked one out for Ai which was enough time for her. Fantastic moments to be had all around, except for Hime who may not be aware enough to care. Also, do not stop watching at the ending theme, because this episode went Marvel on us.
Current Opinion of the Show:
First off, if you made it through all of that, then I commend you. I am loving this show and Mondaiji may not have the time to recover if it wants to be my favorite anime from this season. This episode was ridiculous. Not only did everyone get good exposure, but what we got was great. Chiwa got that reassurance that she was looking for, Masuzu is definitely falling for Eita, Hime got to be pretty forward with Eita, and Ai slapped on a wedding dress. What we got was a great mix of humor and meaningful moments that truly embodies the romantic comedy genre. I keep running into the issue of picking between Masuzu and Ai and this episode only made the choice more difficult for me. However, the person that should be drawing all of our attention is Saeko. We finally meet Eita’s Aunt and she knows Eita and Masuzu are in a fake relationship. They will probably say that she can tell because of how well she knows Eita or the fact that her sibling, I don’t know if Saeko is an aunt from the mother’s or father’s side, was part of a fake romane. That was big, but the thing of note is that she asked Eita which girl he really loves. That will either be a joke or Eita seriously already picked someone. I love her character and I have known Saeko for less than two minutes. Regardless, the events at the end of the episode and the preview indicate a Masuzu heavy episode next weel. I just can’t wait to see what happens next.
