Impression:
So, we are getting some real answers regarding what everyone has been up to. Young Merchant has been buying up everything and forcing inflation. This has resulted in the government issuing new currency, but keeping up with the new value of money will be difficult. Thus, the Merchant’s Alliance is stocking up on food through their wheat hoarding and an offer to buy the South’s supply of potatoes. In such an economy, food is what is of true value. However, with the Southern Nations out of the loop due to their excommunication, this proposed deal for the potatoes would result in the formation of a dual currency system. What is the goal of all of this? Open trade between the human and demon realms. Young Merchant found the answer to the question that Yuusha gave him. Honestly, this is something that is far more complex than anything I ever expected to see in an anime and I only went over part of it. Stuff like this is what truly makes Maoyuu a great series. I mean, this crazy economic development completely overshadows the war that is going on. A surprise attack was handled by a student of Maou’s who has become a general for the Southern Nations. His battle strategy against the Calvary unit, as well as his unbiased medical treatment, are shining examples of Maou’s influence. Another student has become the head of finances for the Southern Nations and id the one that is negotiating with Young Merchant after saving his kingdom from starvation and bankruptcy. Add that to the fact that her other students are spreading Maou’s influence through books and we can see that the ball has definitely begun rolling. Those fronts are going quite nicely and the war itself has yet to truly escalate. Onna Kishi is stalling the advance of the main force and the Mage of multiple personalities has returned to handled the surprise attack by the azure demons. That and she had a message for Yuusha that basically said that he needs to get to Maou immediately. That is where the true problem lies. Maou has been taken over by the former demon kings and is out for blood. Things were going so well.
Current Opinion of the Show:
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha has gotten ridiculously intense. I was asking for more action and we did get it. The cavalry fight was pretty nice, but this is not the kind of series that uses in your face action. By showing the tactics of a nation, both in conflict and development, we are presented with an extremely intellectual struggle that creates far more tension than your average action scene. We are getting things that I have never expected from an anime and that is what is so likable about this series. I am way too excited to see what happens in the finale next week.
