Impression:
Let’s be honest. It is nice to see all of the crazy antics from the characters that we have come to love, but this show is about progress. It has been quite a while since Ryan joined the group and it is time for him to make a leap when it comes to his healing. We thought that was going to be spreading the ashes of his late wife across a lake where they spent a great time together, but we have all seen the classic bait and switch. We normally see ashes replaced with coffee mix, but Bisquick is a good choice as well. Although Mr. K exposing this rouse was a good thing, taking the ashes and making a pancake with them was pretty creepy. Unfortunately, Ryan isn’t the only one that is lagging. No one feels that they have truly done anything and this kind of breaks Lauren who is trying to get over her own loss. Things did not look good for the group at this point in time. Well, four of the members decided to take action. Mr. K and Anne decided to help Ryan through tough love. They stole the ashes and decided to force Ryan to meet them back at the lake. All was going well until Anne left the ashes on top of a car and they fell all over a gas station. On the other end, Sonia and Yolanda decide to help Lauren by giving her a fake loss to help them through. Apparently, Yolanda doesn’t think that Sonia’s cat death thing is a big enough deal. That kind of got to me. I agreed with that statement at first because I don’t have a pet and, when compared to everyone besides Mr. K, the cat thing seems like a small thing. However, I decided to get a professional opinion. I paused the show and called up Bryan because his family has had a cat for quite some time now and I asked him how he would react to the death of his cat. Bryan said that it would be pretty devastating and I am guessing that the response may have been deeper if I hadn’t randomly called him with just that question at almost ten o’clock on a Thursday night. The thing is, loss is loss. You can’t really quantify something that you have not personally experienced. Back to the humor. The fake healing gets a little too intense when Lauren thinks that the scheme, which was the death of a staff member from the hospital where Yolanda and Sonia work, means that she should help the rest of the staff. Well, some day laborers and an actor blow up the scheme and Lauren is not too happy. Things would be bad if this wasn’t a feel good show on basic cable. Lauren fixes Ryan’s dilemma and several other members get past a few of their demons.
Current Opinion of the Show:
I am really pleased with what this show has been doing. I guess Lauren had to experience some sort of loss because she is such a prominent character, but I would have been fine if she didn’t. I guess the only real problem that I have with what happened today was the absence of Carrie. I guess that I really wanted to see that either develop further or resolve. Oh well, it wasn’t necessary and I expect it to be handled this season. The good stuff would be the fact that we are still seeing a lot of different characters getting exposure. Ryan and Lauren were in the spotlight because their problems were being handled, but you should expect Ryan to be the star. Getting to see pieces of his wedding was nice. We got a nice balance of dramatic healing and comedy and this was a nice way to spend a Thursday night. Watching Ryan spread the last of the ashes across the dirt in a batting cage where he and Janie went on their third date and again on their wedding day in order to get away from it all was very meaningful. It had everything really. Sentimental value, healing, and a great sports connection. Lauren getting out of her funk was nice because it linked to the greater part of the episode which is the fact that the group benefits everyone and they need each other in order to heal. All of that was great and I am definitely looking forward to more. I guess the best thing to end on is the fact that after twenty-two episodes, and almost a year’s worth of time in the Go On world, Ryan finally didn’t wake up at 1:23 am and that is great.
