Impression:
So, I decided to watch another episode of this series. I try to give an anime a few episodes before deciding whether or not I want to keep watching, but that doesn’t mean that I have always made the right choice in that regard. I might have dropped Steins;Gate early on if it wasn’t for the fact that I was watching it with Bryan and Daniel. Oh well, onto Namiuchigiwa. I guess that the world of mermaids is quite technologically advanced. One of the shells in Muromi’s hair is actually a cell phone. The girl just wants to text with her beloved Takkun. Unfortunately for her, Takkun doesn’t really text very well. We ended up meeting a few of the other mermaids while this was going on. Two of them weren’t really named in this episode, but I am sure that we will be seeing them again. Levia-san is the one that actually got screen time. She is actually the leviathan of legend that has been around since the writing of the Old Testament. It turns out that she is a mermaid most of the time, but Levia-san has a battle mode where she becomes a giant sea serpent that can breathe fire. They say fire, but it is more like she is releasing a bomb. We got another “history” lesson when we found out that Levia-san helped the Greek gods sink the continent of Mu. Damn, that was odd. They tried to make Muomi’s love for Takkun seem sweet, but the comedy makes it overbearing which is kind of counterproductive.
Current Opinion of the Show:
I actually think that I am enjoying this series. The story isn’t extremely well written or anything like that, but I need a short comedy in my season schedule. Something that will make me laugh and not strain my brain. Do you know what I mean? I love things like a Suisei no Gargantia that is also in this season, but I couldn’t handle watching all heavy hitters. A break is nice every once in a while. Namiuchigiwa seems like that kind of series. I enjoy the humor that we are getting to an extent. Like, it is funny, but I am not literally laughing out loud. Imagine the way that you type “LOL” to someone when they type something that is funny, but you have a blank stare on your face. I guess that the whole age thing is going to be a running joke, but I really do want to know how old the mermaids are. Muromi was part of a French witch trial and she stopped the Mongul invasion of Japan. Answers must be given. I guess that I am most looking forward to meeting the rest of the characters.
