News – New Sailor Moon Anime Coming This Winter

untitled-12Looks like we won’t have to wait very long for new Sailor Moon.

Last Sunday at the second Sailor Moon 20th Anniversary Event, it was announced that the new Sailor Moon anime will premier this upcoming winter. Kodansha revealed that it will not be a remake, suggesting that it will feature brand new storylines instead. The new series was announced last year during the first Anniversary event and was set to premiere this summer, but it was delayed in April, The series will be streamed worldwide through NicoNico Douga, though there was no mention about subtitles.

Also during the event, it was announced that Momoiro Clover Z would be singing the opening and ending themes for the new series. The group had previously performed “Moonlight Densetsu”, the theme from the original series, so it’s expected that they will sing an updated version of that. No word on what the title of the ending song will be yet.

Kodansha editor Fumio “Osabu” Osano revealed that they could not at the moment reveal the voice cast for the new series yet, as they were still in the process of selecting actresses. From the sound of that, it looks as if the original cast will not be reprising their roles. Granted, it has been 20 years now and they probably don’t sound like 16 year old high school girls anymore, so hearing new voices will take some getting used to.

The new upcoming Sailor Moon series is set to release in the upcoming Winter 2013-2014 season. Sounds like a good time to rewatch the entire original series during the wait.
