Impression:
The first episode of Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! was very interesting. Honestly, they had me at using the Lelouch voice, but the anime is looking to be so much more. The episode gives the viewers something that should be very relatable with the affliction known as Eight Grader Syndrome. I would assume that most of us have done things in the past that are so embarrassing to us now that we get a physical reaction to how much we reject the thought of doing such things now. Well, that appears to be this anime in a nutshell. In order to avoid the title of Dark Flame Master that Yuuta had made for himself in middle school, our main character decides to attend a far away high school for a clean slate. Things are going well as Yuuta is able to blend into the crowd, but there is something that catches his eye. A girl in his class named Rikka comes to school with an eyepatch and bandages on her arm. One would think she was in a horrible accident but, in reality, she is still stricken by the Chuunibyou that has Yuuta very much rethinking his life choices. Avoiding her is the obvious course of action, but it turns out that Rikka lives in the apartment directly above Yuuta’s. I am already looking forward to the obvious romance between Yuuta and Rikka that has a foundation already here in episode one.
Current Opinion of the Show:
I am very interested in this show moving forward. From the beautiful animation, to the rehashing of embarrassing behavior, the series appears to be one of the gems in this season. If you are starting this series after it is over, try to avoid things like Tumblr that will basically ruin every episode for you.
