News – The End of Young Justice and Green Lantern the Animated Series?

Why would you get rid of this?

Things are bad. We all knew that Teen Titans Go! was going to be a thing and people feared that it spelled the end for Young Justice. Well, those fears are becoming a reality. Cartoon Network announced that Teen Titans Go! and a new series called Beware the Batman will be coming to DC Nation next season. Not only that, but both Young Justice and Green Lantern the Animated Series are absent from their list of returning shows. Even though they did not specifically state that the current DC Nation line up was getting the boot, most of us can infer what this means. I doubt that we will see DC Nation jump from one hour to two, so we will see Teen Titans Go! and Beware the Batman replace Young Justice and Green Lantern the Animated Series on DC Nation starting this fall. Anyone else mad?

I just started watching this.

Now, I am less familiar with Green Lantern the Animated Series so I will go over this one first. I just started watching this series and I found it to be very good. The story incorporates my favorite part of the Green Lantern universe which is the different lantern corps. The story is solid, but the biggest complaint that I have heard from people was that they had a problem with the animation style. I was a critic, but if I decided to not watch this due to CGI when I think it is ridiculous that people shy away from One Piece due to its art, then I would be a hypocrite. Turns out that the show is pretty darn good and watching it allowed me to fully enjoy all that DC Nation has to offer. Now, before people go and say that a new Batman series will be a huge upgrade, I will quickly tell you why I am not a part of that line of thinking. First off, Beware the Batman will also be done with CGI so, if that was a deterrent for people before, it will continue to be one with this new show. Next you have the issue of over centralizing DC. We all know that the Dark Knight franchise was big time and that Batman is basically DC’s flagship, but if you rely on Batman too much, you will never be able to develop the rest of your universe. Green Lantern is by no means a lower level DC character, but it is definitely not mainstream. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are the only two DC heroes that I will admit are mainstream and that is because they have recognition amongst people who know nothing about the DC universe. If DC wants to cripple itself and admit that they are just going to be Batman and friends, then please keep doing what you are doing. However, if you ever want to be something more, then maybe you should consider sticking with some of these other stories. If you haven’t noticed, Green Lantern the Animated Series is actually doing pretty well. Have you seen the numbers on iTunes?

I am officially upset.

Words do not describe how I feel about what they have done to Young Justice. I know that most of the hiatus time was due to a precedent that Cartoon Network had set where they do not air new material in the summer and winter because ratings go down when kids are on break from school. I understand even though I was not happy about it. However, this last hiatus that started two episodes in to the return from the summer hiatus was just a slap to the face. The shady way that they went about it was odd enough, but the return earlier this month made me happy. The show is fantastic and they are building up to some huge things. I thought that the obvious success of the show would allow it to stick around. Teen Titans Go! didn’t look nearly as serious as its predecessor and I thought the two could coexist due to their probable different nature. Well, you can call me the clueless optimist now because all signs point to me being wrong. Why can’t we have nice things? I am still bitter over the way that Cartoon Network handled the cancellation of Teen Titans and what do I have to look forward to now? If I am lucky we will get the end of the series to actually come at the end of the season. Some would say it is better than the post movie, single episode thing. I will contest that Cartoon Network hates its fans. I would once again like to point to the fact that buying shows on iTunes makes money. Young Justice is consistently on the list of top animated shows on iTunes and the last few episodes have put them at the top of the leader boards. There is so much going on in the story right now that resolving everything by the end of the season would feel rushed in all honesty. Obviously this thing with the Reach could see its climax, but there is so much room in this universe for things that I really need to see.

Prepare yourself Cartoon Network.

In all honesty, the probable cancellation of the current DC Nation lineup is more confusing than anything else. Why mess with something that is successful? It is like DC and Cartoon Network are pulling a Joker. Look at that pile of money. I think that I should set it on fire and go do something else now. It isn’t like I think that these new shows will flop. The various animated series that I have seen have been pretty good for the most part. It is just the fact that we have to replace the things that are currently successful to make room for these new projects. Deep down I am hoping that these new shows are good because I will try them out. However, I am currently full of anger that is so great that even the Nintendo announcement can’t cheer me up. I would urge all of the fans of the current DC Nation to contact both DC and Cartoon Network regarding this announcement because If you have time to read this, then I would think that you have time to write two E-mails. I am about to go do that right now. Also, if you do contact them try to be courteous because a bunch of letters that sound like twelve-year olds playing Call of Duty will not help our cause.
