Impression:
Part of this episode was really hard to watch. Big Sister Maid was supposed to use the ring to pretend to be the Crimson Scholar, get captured, and then Yuusha was going to save her after the Winter King and his people were proven to have no connection to the “heretic” as she was labeled. However, things did not go so smoothly. Once they bound Big Sister Maid, the guards began to whip her and the blood in the scene was very graphic. I am not good with horrible things such as this and I had to partially avert my eyes. The only way to get the full impact of the scene is to watch it, but I will understand if some of you have to mute it. When Little Sister Maid asked why her sister was being beaten as the sounds of whipping continued, I thought that I might not be able to make it through the rest of the episode. Luckily, about seventy percent of the episode was dedicated to Big Sister Maid giving a speech that resembled the one that Head Maid had given her when they first met. The speech told the countless peasants that had come to see off their beloved Crimson Scholar that life is a blessing. No one can take away the fact that you are human unless you allow it. Those who would live their lives according to others are no better than insects. We must always strive to better ourselves because complacency is foolish. I obviously paraphrased things because that speech took forever, but things got really dicey in the end. The peasants were ordered to stone Crimson Scholar, but when they sided with her, the peasants began to stone the messenger and his guards. Then, they were going to decapitate Crimson Scholar in front of everyone. I would have felt more tension at this moment if it wasn’t for the fact that Yuusha was watching over it. No one could do anything if he was going to intervene. To my surprise, the Winter King is the one who stopped the blade. He declared that Crimson Scholar would be under the protection of his kingdom and that the Central Powers could suck it. That was obviously not what he said verbatim, but I think we all know what he meant. Then, Female Knight declared her a saint and the people rallied behind their king. Things are going well in a sense because Maou and the group now have the backing of a nation, but this spells trouble for the world. The Winter Kingdom may see themselves against the rest of the human world in an upcoming war because of this and I haven’t even mentioned that a shady looking demon seems to be on alert in regards to the actions of Maou. Things are getting really intense right now.
Current Opinion of the Show:
There is not a lot to dislike in regards to this series. Maoyuu is obviously the serious member of this season’s line up and that is something I appreciate. I can only watch so much comedic slice of life before I get bored. The tension that is being built up in this series is great the turns that the story takes never cease to surprise me. There are a lot of things to look forward to, but I am very curious about what happened after the ending theme in this episode. Maou was speaking in a somewhat ominous tone and I need to see her reunited with Yuusha pronto.
