Impression:
Things have been heating up in a lot of series this week and that statement holds a double meaning for Mushibugyou. This episode was pretty much used as a lead in for what is going down next week because the Insect Hunters, Mugai’s former crew, is going after the Insect Magistrate.
Let’s talk about this mysterious group of people. They were the main force that fought against the giant insects before the Insect Magistrate started recruiting its own force. A messenger who is extremely low in their hierarchy has the ability to control insects with her flute. Mugai suddenly left the Insect Hunters to help fight the insects as a part of a new group. The Insect Hunters have the ultimate goal of killing the Insect Magistrate. Looks like this is one shady group of people. The full extent of their influence and power is not yet known, but I am sure that we will get a better look at them in the next episode.
Let’s talk about Mitsuki. She is a messenger for the Insect Hunters that uses her feminine wiles to get information out of people. Pretty standard stuff. Well, Jinbei is either an idiot or a genius when it comes to figuring her out because he still thinks that she is a nice person. Let’s go with lucky idiot because it seems like Mitsuki is going to switch sides somewhere along the way because of the flow of the episode. The Insect Hunters do plan on killing her when they are done with the Insect Magistrate. What I want to know is how Jinbei got any rest while running around with Mitsuki and Oharu. The guy was beat and they did not help with that.
Current Opinion of the Show:
I am very happy with the fact that they are still pushing the actual story. Things are finally going to start getting revealed next week when the Insect Hunters attack the Insect Magistrate. I can’t wait to see how Jinbei reacts to the fact that he spent the day with the Insect Magistrate during the festival. Well, we should look at motives for the attacks. The obvious one is that the Insect Magistrate has taken money away from the Insect Hunters because the government has gotten involved. You could expand that by saying that the Insect Hunters are behind the infestation because they can control insects. I don’t really see anything else outside of that, but we will see what happens.
I like women as much as the next guy, but they need to stop the breast focus in this series. It is bad enough that the opening has a bounce and all of the previews talk about Oharu’s chest, but this was too much. Half of the episode was spent having Mitsuki seduce Jinbei. That is an interrogation tactic, but I could have done without the eel scene. Overall, I think that it wasn’t a horrible series of events, but it went a little too far at times. I am excited to see more of Mitsuki, but in a more fully clothed state I hope. Aside from that, I am really looking forward to the fight against the Insect Hunters.
