Date A Live

Impression:

I was actually very surprised by this episode. We got the beach episode during the date between Shidou and Kotori. I expected things to be horribly incestuous, but they actually kept that to a minimum. I guess that I am trying to say that they are handling this situation better than I thought. Oh well, let’s go over what happened.

They had to find a way to write this in.

They had to find a way to write this in.

Here is the first example of how the writers avoided incest. We expected Shidou to help Kotori pick out her swimsuit. That would have been very odd because siblings should not be doing stuff like that. A guy picking out a swimsuit for a girl just seems like a very intimate thing. However, Shidou helping girls with their swimsuit choices was an inevitable thing. Luckily, the training session handled all of that. Shidou had to get used to being around girls in swimsuits because you an’t get too nervous or have wandering eyes during a date. So, the training session involved Shidou helping Tohka and Yoshino pick out their swimsuits. That was the plan, but Origami interfered and a competition between her and Tohka ensued. Unfortunately for them, Yoshino won the arousal contest on accident. That was actually very funny.

This is getting kind of emotional.

This is getting kind of emotional.

We all know why this date has to go down. Kotori will lose herself if Shidou does not seal away her spirit powers by the end of the day. As siblings, they are very close and the two do not want to lose each other. Unfortunately, Kotori has been on the inside of the spirit operation for too long and that has made her very defensive during this whole thing. She assumes that everything is being suggested to Shidou and this is keeping her from letting loose and having fun. What makes things worse is the fact that her body is under too much stress and she has to take a ridiculous amount of drugs in order to function properly. Luckily, Shidou realizes that he has to openly ditch the earpiece and the other two in order to get through to Kotori. For some reason, all of that just felt like it wasn’t incestuous and I appreciated that. Although things are about to go well, Origami just found out that Kotori is Efreet and the stalker now has access to some superior equipment. Things are going to get pretty intense in the final episode.

That guy is a sick fuck.

Current Opinion of the Show:

Once again, this series has surprised me in a fantastic way. First, there was the fun romance that was good enough. I wasn’t a fan of the pacing of the show, but I have sat through worse. Then, we got to Kurumi’s character and the shockingly violent stuff began to happen. Yes, anime can be violent and graphic, but that is not what you would have expected from this series in its early stage. An actual story is starting to develop and the series has one episode left in order to accomplish the final thing that has surprised me. That is avoiding incest. They did a good job of that during this episode, but that doesn’t stop a likely moment or two from being highly incestuous during the next episode. Honestly, I can’t enjoy this series if Kotori is endgame. However, there is no way that the series will simply end during the next episode. Not only will they not be able to handle Kotori, Mana, and Kurumi during one episode without rushing things, but there is an OVA that is going to come out after the series is over. I don’t know what they can accomplish with one episode and one OVA, but it will be something. On that note. this series will need another season because there is just too much going on right now. Just keep it incest free when it comes to Kotori and Mana. That is literally all that I am asking right now.

We are getting a battle in the next episode.

We are getting a battle in the next episode.

The AST leader had some footage of the fight, so Origami was able to figure out that it was indeed Kotori that killed her parents. Although she was told not to use it, the fact that Origami was told to not use the super suit means that she will be stealing it in order to kill Kotori in next week’s season finale. A fight will ensue that Shidou probably can’t stop. I assume from the preview that Tohka and Yoshino will be getting involved and that this will be a huge fight. What am I expecting from the finale? Well, there is no way that Shidou will fail in saving Kotori in some way or another. I just see that as being in the nature of the series. Also, Origami won’t die from using the super suit. I am looking forward to the ending, but I am sad because I don’t expect to see Kurumi in the finale.

This is probably important.
