I’m literally at McDonald’s just to upload this post. Anyway. It turns out there’s a bit more to the happy-go-lucky Emi than it would have seemed (at is the case with all the characters in this series). Like Tsukiko, Youto had an encounter with Emi some time in the past. She’s from Italy, which still doesn’t really explain the pink hair, and was part of a church choir. Even though she didn’t have the best of times with them, Youto was there to comfort her. That is, until they got separated, and Youto even forgot who she was.

I think we can assume that Youto lost his memory somewhere down the line, but the question is how? Someone must have made a wish to the cat statue that caused him to forget his first encouters with both Tsukiko and Emi. According to the cat-possessed Azusa, Youto made a wish in the past for Tsukishi to live happily in Italy. This caused the current school transformation and even Emi’s transportation to Japan.

When evil Azusa essentially forces Youto to choose her or Emi, he rushes to kiss her which breaks the spell. Everything works out in the end, but I feel like things were let off too easily. Either they rushed the ending or we haven’t seen the last of the malevolent cat statue. The usage of “The Happy Prince” was well done, though. Is it selfish for the swallow to be sad that the prince died, even though he helped everyone? I think that’s open to interpretation. At first, I was associating the swallow to Tsukiko rather than Azusa, but I suppose all of the girls actually fit the role somewhat. Perhaps next episode we can expect progress to return Tsukiko her emotions?! I need more genki Yui Ogura in my life.
