This upcoming Shaft production is an adaptation of Nisio Isin’s 6th novel in his Monogatari series, which began with Bakemonogatari in 2009. A sequel later aired in early 2012 as Nisemonogatari, an adaptation of the 4th and 5th books in the series. Nekomonogatari will be a prequel set between the events of the upcoming Kizumonogatari and Bakemonogatari, and deals with the character Tsubasa Hanekawa.

Nekomonogatari: Kuro will be a 4 episode series. It airs on December 31st.
