Introduction:

Fans of DC, Mortal Kombat, and fighting games in general must rejoice because Injustice: Gods Among Us is coming out on April 1, 2013. The game is using the Mortal Kombat engine with a character roster and story that is all about the DC Universe. I am very excited about this because I am a huge fan of DC and I own more than my fair share of fighting games. There is a lot of hype around this game and the trailers have me more hyped than a person should be.

After watching that, you better be excited for this game. Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe was a big let down the last time we had a DC fighting game project that was partnered up with Mortal Kombat, but this time I have hope. Let’s be honest, it has to be better than the last game. Now there are a lot of people out there that didn’t really like the 3D fighting in the last game or the look of the characters in general. Well, things have changed.

I am very excited because the level of interaction with the arenas looks amazing. Not only do you have the whole multi-level thing going on like in Dead or Alive, but you also have level specific interactions like you have in Super Smash Brother, but on an even higher level. This will hopefully make more than just a handful of stages fun to play. Also, the fighting looks really cool. The characters will actually function differently based on their fighting style instead of just having the exact same fighting styles with different looking characters like in some games. All in all I am very excited for this game and North America is actually getting three different versions that will be available for purchase.

Regular Version

A must buy in my opinion.

A must buy in my opinion.

Contains: The Game, The Red Son Pack DLC with GameStop Pre-Order

Rating: RP (I doubt it won’t be rated T)

Platforms: PS3, XBox 360, Wii U

Cost: $59.99

This version will be the one that most people will buy because not everyone needs a bunch of fancy stuff and the game alone is going to be what is important. The DLC you get with the pre-order is cool because you get extra skins and an alternate story arc to play through that follows the story of Superman if his rocket landed in Soviet Russia. I suggest this version to people who don’t have tons of cash lying around, even though this is still expensive, and aren’t crazy into the DC Universe or fighting games in general.

Collector’s Edition

That is a lot of stuff.

That is a lot of stuff.

Contains: The Game, Collectible Statue, Collector’s Edition of a New DC Comic, New 52 Skin DLC, Downloadable Copy of the Movie Justice League: Doom, and The Red Son Pack DLC with GameStop Pre-Order

Rating: RP (I doubt it won’t be rated T)

Platforms: PS3, XBox 360, Wii U

Cost: $99.99

I believe that this will be the least popular of the versions sold in North America for many reasons. The first is the price that not a lot of people want to pay. The average gamer will not shell out an extra forty dollars for some collectible stuff that they will not see a need for. The statue itself isn’t very appealing to me even though I am a big DC fan that is also a collector. Finally, there is the fact that there is another version that I think will appeal more to those that can shell out some extra cash. I will say that for a collector, this is one hell of a buy that probably will not be available after the initial launch.

Battle Edition

I can't believe that we are getting a fighting stick.

Contains: The Game, New 52 Skin DLC, The Official Arcade Stick

Rating: RP (I doubt it won’t be rated T)

Platforms: PS3, XBox 360, Wii U

Cost: $149.99

This is the version that I will be getting. Anyone that is serious about fighting games needs an arcade stick and I don’t have one for my PS3 or XBox 360. I think that this will appeal to people who can spend more money, but this one will not be coming with the Red Son pack DLC which is very unfortunate. However, the arcade stick features official art from the creators of the game and fighting sticks are things that you will be using.

I do not think that this is a final roster.

Final Say:

The different versions have their pluses and minuses, but they are all worth buying in my opinion. The basic game will obviously sell best because most people don’t need fancy, expensive stuff. The collector’s edition will appeal to collector’s which is why they labeled it as such, and the battle edition will appeal to both collector’s and fighting game enthusiasts. I am obviously getting the battle edition for the fighting stick because the only one I have now is for my Wii and that will not work on my other systems. Anyways, all of the versions look good and I am very glad to see that we are getting these things. The picture above is of a character roster that is not finalized, but I would like it if we got the characters that are there. My only complaint would be the lack of Captain Marvel, but this is not final so I can still hold out hope. Overall I would say that I could not be anymore excited about this game than I already am and the fact that it comes out in the same month as my birthday means that I found the present that I will be giving to myself. I plan to keep the site up to date on Injustice news so let’s track this game together.

Harley Quinn is a character that I am excited for.
