News – KyoAni’s Swimming Anime “Free!” Will Air on July 4th

After KyoAni teased a commercial featuring four exceptionally handsome swimmers, the world began to wonder if it would ever become a full-fledged series. Well, wonder no more world because it’s officially being released for the summer anime season. I really find the music choices being used in these trailers quite interesting. First it was a dubstep-ish hip hop track and now the music has a brighter disco flair to it.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m totally stoked for this show. The animation looks amazing (but then again, it’s KyoAni). As much I enjoy cute girls doing cute things, maybe hot guys doing hot things would be a nice diversion. I really liked Kuroko no Basuke after all.

Also, it seems that KyoAni just has a thing for characters with square red glasses…

Anyway, the voice talent includes:

  • Nobunaga Shimazaki (Shido from Date A Live) as Nanase Haruka
  • Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Haru from Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun) as Makoto Tachibana
  • Tsubasa Yonaga (Nova from La storia della Arcana Famiglia) as Hazuki Nagisa
  • Daisuke Hirakawa (Makoto from School Days) as Rei Ryugazaki
  • Mamoru Miyano (Okabe from Steins;Gate) as Rin Matsuoka

  1. Excellent! I had seen various promo pics and a much shorter trailer floating around the web a month or so ago, but it’s nice to have some more substantial news. Really great to see some female-orientated moe come out of KyoAni studio – obviously I’m biased, but clearly I’m not the only one to be excited for the likes of Haruhi Suzumiya and K-On! to be balanced out by some material for the ladies.

    • Haha, I like the term “female-oriented moe,” and it’s almost weird to see KyoAni animate this many male characters. And don’t worry, even as a guy I can tell that there’s going to be something for everyone with this series.
