Super Sonico The Animation (White Fox) – Genre: Music, Slice of Life
Episode 01 – “I’ll Do My Best!”
Well, not sure what I was expecting when I went into this one, but I guess you could say that I got what was coming for me. The first episode of SoniAni gives us a look into what the everyday life of a popular idol is like, and boy is it tough, especially for our air-headed heroine Super Sonico. I’m honestly concerned that a person so spacy is allowed to work so many different jobs while still attending college.
In this one day, she manages to oversleep, is late to class, and gets taken advantage by some photoshoot client. That part of the episode was actually really creepy, but thankfully Super Sonico has an awesome oni manager. Part of me wonders what that new outfit was because the first swimsuit was revealing as it was. I’m not sure why Super Sonico has to get into a swimsuit to market Nintendo consoles in the first place, but all I know is that now I want a Wii U.
It’s pretty much impossible for me to try and recommend this to someone. Pretty much nothing happens in the first episode, and it’ll likely follow that trend for the rest of the series. The main (and perhaps only) draw of SoniAni is for fans of Nitro+, Super Sonico, and girls that look like Super Sonico. While I’m never opposed to cute girls doing cute things, there needs to be some dynamic and setting that keeps things interesting. In this case, simply providing a look into the everyday life of Super Sonico may not be enough.
For me, I think I’ll stick around for one or two more episodes. For you, you might be better off skipping this. Even the animation is only so-so and a bit of a let-down from Hataraku Maou-sama!. Probably best thing about the series is the cats. Oh, and the songs are pretty good, as they’re performed by Super Sonico’s band: Daiichi Uchuu Sokudo.
