News – New Pokémon, Types, and Game Modes Announced for Pokémon X and Y

Well, that was a lot to take in. We learned a lot of little things like some english names. Pancham, Helioptile, and Kalos are things to remember. Then, there was the important stuff. Let’s start out with the new Pokémon because that is what people care about. Here is the funny thing. When I was talking to the guys about how many new Pokémon we would see, Bryan jokingly said either one or two. I can remember which number it was, but it is funny how he was pretty much right.

Hello starting bug-type.

Hello starting bug-type.

Name: Vivillon

Type: Bug/Flying

Known Move: Struggle Bug

Vivillon isn’t the craziest reveal out there. We knew that we were going to get a starting bug-type Pokémon. This one does look pretty cool, but it just reminds me of how much I miss Butterfree. The design isn’t really that new and struggle bug isn’t an odd move for it to learn. Overall, this was a pretty sub-par reveal if you ask me.

We got a wyvern.

We got a wyvern.

Name: Noivern

Type: Dragon/Flying

Known Move: Boomburst

This is what I am talking about. A new dragon-type Pokémon that is pretty unique. It is based on a wyvern and we have some cool sound stuff going on. I am a big fan of Chatot and Exploud, so this is something that really appeals to me. The black and purple design is really cool and the new attack is like a crazy version of hypervoice. It is cool to see what will hopefully be a special attacker. Most dragons are outragers and I think we need something different. I am really looking forward to using this Pokémon and I hope that this is the first of many new dragons from sixth gen.

The theorists were correct.

The theorists were correct.

Everyone called the fairy-type theorists crazy. Well, Crocker was right about the existence of fairies and those people were right about fairy-type Pokémon. With the new type comes old Pokémon with new types and new attacks. What is really cool about all of this is the fact that fairy-type attacks are super effective against dragon-type Pokémon. Dragons were too over powered and it is nice to see them take another hit. Sylveon got an attack called moonburst and Gardevoir got a move called fairy wind. Aside from Marill, the Pokémon that they chose to get the type make sense. I wonder if Gardevoir will jump up the usage list when it gets STAB moves that hurt dragons. Overall, I think that the meta game needed another answer to dragons and this was a good one. Plus, it will help out some of those bulky normals that just weren’t good enough. Which other Pokémon deserve this type? Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit are pretty obvious. Aside from them, I would like to see Milotic or Cherrim getting the new type. Celfable is a little obvious.

More fun stuff.

More fun stuff.

Did you guys ever play Pokémon Channel? I did and I loved it. I think the idea of playing with your Pokémon ids great because they are your friends and it shouldn’t always be about battling. In this mode, you can pet, feed, and play with your Pokémon. It will build their happiness and it sounds like a fun game mode overall. I can’t wait to see what kind of funny things legendary Pokémon do in this game mode.

It even looks like France.

It even looks like France.

Overall, I enjoyed this reveal. It was cool to see a new dragon Pokémon and seeing a new type was crazy to say the least. I am really happy to see that the region is shaped like France. No one can question its legitimacy now. I think that I was expecting more, but that is really just me being selfish. I look forward to more reveals and I already have Pokémon X pre ordered. I can’t wait to get it on October 12. That is the official release date around the world.
